Steering House Development purchased this structurally unstable building with an active department of buildings vacate order. The developer of the vacant lot next door started excavation of his land without properly underpinning this property. During excavation, the building shifted, pulling away from it’s neighbor to the right by a few inches. Steering House worked closely with the department of buildings’ forensic engineers to develop and excecute a stabilization, underpinning and tie-back plan to save this property located in the historically significant Wallabout neighborhood of Brooklyn. Upon stabilization, the vacate order was lifted and the property sold to the current occupants.
